This is an app created especially for those who love the freedom of choice and want to go exploring.

Rockhampton was, in the 1850s, Australia's northern frontier town - and became a sophisticated and wealthy place. That was thanks in part to the nearby Mount Morgan mines, which were the richest in the world at one stage, plus Rockhampton's location on the Fitzroy River. This made the historic town a bustling Port of Entry into Australia. Many of the grand buildings of the latter half of the 19th century still grace the river-front Quay Street, and a heritage architecture tour is one of the self-guided trails you can explore on the App.

In fact, the Explore Rockhampton App allows mature-age visitors to tour the highlights of the Rockhampton region at their own pace. Offering seven unique trails and experiences, the free App includes audio and, once downloaded from either the Apple app store or Google Play store, can be accessed on any smart device. The App also has functionality to pause any tour at any stage so tourists can enjoy a cup of coffee, a frothy beer, some retail therapy or a delicious meal.

Rockhampton is the coastal heart of Queensland, on the Tropic of Capricorn, and App includes:

  • Rockhampton's Heritage Architecture Trail, where you walk through to time to experience a frontier town to bustling river port to gold rush city.

  • Meet the Crew at Rockhampton Zoo, home to almost 100 animals covering 31 species.

  • Where's the Beef? Jump in your car and discover Rockhampton's wonderful world of bull statues when you 'meet' these iconic Rocky beef industry mascots.

  • 100-year-old Trees at the Botanic Gardens and delve into the botanical history of this curated collection.

  • Riverside Public Art Trail. A walking tour where the hidden and magical magical pieces of public art are revealed in all their glory.

  • Holidaying with the Grandkids? The Fun with Kids Trail introduces you to places of beauty where you can stretch your legs and they can let off some energy.

Location: Best place to start your Rocky adventure is the Explore Rockhampton Centre, 176 Gladstone Rd, Rockhampton QLD 4700. That's only 3.5 kms from the CBD, with parking roadside.
