Twelve categories recognising government, private and not-for-profit organisations that service the mature age tourism sector within Australia​.

Small Caravan Park

Private or Council-owned caravan parks with up to 75 RV sites, excluding any cabins, glamping tents or villas. The sites can be any mix of powered and non-powered sites, or all powered sites.

Large Caravan Park

Private or Council-owned caravan parks with more than 75 RV sites, excluding any cabins, glamping tents or villas. The sites can be any mix of powered and non-powered sites, or all powered sites.

Pub Stay

Hotels, country pubs and hotel-motels that provide for RV camping within their property boundaries. The sites can be powered, non-powered or a mix, plus free, free with meal or user-pays.

Farm or Station Stay 

Farms, hobby farms, stations, large rural properties, and wineries that provide RV camping within their property boundaries. The sites can be powered, non-powered or a mix.

Community Stay

Any community organisation or not-for-profit, including sporting clubs, services clubs, progress associations, museums, show societies or recreation groups, that provide RV camping at a property or campground under their administration or for which they receive funds. The sites can be powered, non-powered or a mix, plus free, free with meal or user-pays.

Council Free-stay

Any campsite or campground where visitors stay on local government-controlled land or roads for free or for a requested donation. The RV camping could be provided at a property, rest area, parkland, in a designated street or at a campground that is managed or maintained in part or whole by a local government authority. The sites can be powered, non-powered or a mix.

Volunteer Program or Project

Back in 2021! After a year in hiatus thanks to COVID, this category is for  any community, education, private sector or government organisation, including event organisers, that provides an opportunity for grey nomads to volunteer through a program, project or event in the eligibility period - 1 July 2020 to 30 September 2021.

Festival or Event

A festival or event which was free or ticketed, one-day or multi-day, open to the public and held in the eligibility period – between 1 July 2020 to 30 September 2020. The event could be held at any time interval or have been a one-off celebration.

Contemporary Attraction

Open to attractions that provide a contemporary experience, rather than one from an historical perspective. A tourist attraction is a permanent place deriving all or part of its income from visitors and which operates with visitor enjoyment as one of its objectives. This could include, but is not limited to, places of art, theme parks, zoos and aquariums, visitor centres, wineries, and food tourism businesses.

Historic Attraction

Open to attractions that provide a historic experience or an experience from an historic perspective. A tourist attraction is a permanent place deriving all or part of its income from visitors and which operates with visitor enjoyment as one of its objectives. This could include, but is not limited to, museums, historic villages, heritage settlements and historic reconstructions.

Tour

A tour is a guided experience of no less than a half day which is provided free or ticketed and was open to the public. The tour must have run one or more times in the eligibility period of 1 July 2020 to 30 September 2021. Tours can include guided walking, boat, train, scuba and coach day or night tours.

Trail

A trail is a self-guided experience of any length of time which is provided in a map, app or other format in which the public can follow to experience the trail. Walking, biking or self-drive trails are eligible, including town heritage trails, art trails, country drive trails, food trails, and wine trails.
